FW 410: Exploratory Internship Credit Info Sheet

WHAT IS THE CREDIT?

Students can complete the FW 410 Exploratory Internship requirement by attending a conference. Students can do so by contacting the internship coordinator for approval of their conference plan, registering with the conference organization (and paying any associated fees), registering for the correct course section, and then attending the conference and completing associated academic assignments.

Many Oregon-based students choose to attend the annual Oregon conferences for either the Oregon Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) or The Wildlife Society (TWS), for which the Department often organizes a large group of students to attend.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR FW 410?

Once you've decided to attend the conference, email the FWCS Internship Coordinator at FW.internship@oregonstate.edu and state your plan, noting: your ID number, campus, which conference you'll attend, conference dates, and that you wish to attend the conference as your exploratory internship.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE CONFERENCE?

Students are responsible for registering themselves for the conference. They can do so by visiting the conference website and registering. There you will also find information about lodging and transportation. Many conferences offer discounted or free attendance or housing for student volunteers, so make sure to check with the conference organizers if this option interests you.
