What is the difference between graduate standalone courses and slash courses?

To determine if a course is a slash course examine the OSU schedule of classes for the term that you intend to take the 5XX course. If there is a 4xx course with the same title during the same term, then this is a slash course. If there is no 4xx course with the same title during the same term, then it is considered a standalone course.

How many credits do I register for?

You are considered a “full-time” graduate student if you are registered for 9–16 credits in a given academic term. Students must receive approval from the Graduate School to exceed 16 credits and will be charged a per credit overload fee. You are considered a “part-time” graduate student if you have fewer than nine credits. Part-time graduate students are only eligible for federal financial aid support or tax benefits if they are enrolled in a minimum of five credits. If you are a degree-seeking student, you must be registered for a minimum of three graduate credits (unless on an approved Leave of Absence), including the term of the final defense.
