CUVIER'S BEAKED WHALE
Selene Fregosi
Latin name:Â Ziphius cavirostris
Cuvier's beaked whales are one of the most wide spread species of beaked whale, however little is known about their current population size and trends. Beaked whales are particularly sensitive to increased anthropogenic noise in the oceans, particularly sonar. Selene Fregosi and colleagues are working to develop new methods to conduct passive acoustic surveys for beaked whales using mobile autonomous instruments such as Seagliders and underwater floats.
