DUNGENESS CRAB
Kathleen O'Malley
Latin name: Cancer magister
Dungeness crab are distributed along the majority of the North American west coast, and display immense potential for dispersal of larvae. MS student Tyler Jackson is studying the genetic diversity and connectivity of Dungeness crab populations throughout their range using genetic markers. This study will help insure continued sustainable growth of the fishery by improving our current understanding of Dungeness crab biology. This project is being conducted in the O'Malley lab at OSU, and is collaboration with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Oregon Sea Grant.
